We are living in a period marked by the popularization of digital fabrication tools and the strengthening of the Maker Movement. This article presents a reflection based on the authors' experience with 3D printing techniques for the production of educational materials. The objective was to explain the difficulties and facilities experienced during the process, promoting a guided discussion on the understanding of the possibilities of using 3D printing technology by teachers, in the production of their teaching materials. It is concluded that initiatives that equip schools with 3D printers and offer purely technical courses to teachers are not enough if there is no articulation of actions that expand the cultural context of teachers in the search for knowledge, using the resources available today.
